$3.95

Coptis occidentalis
(also known as Idaho Goldthread)

zones 4-6
20 seeds

This unassuming perennial forms a deep green ground cover on subalpine forest floors. It prefers spots that are cool and moist. Leaves are evergreen and attractive. Flowers appear in May and are short-lived and inconspicuous, looking more like green pods than traditional “flowers”. Western Goldthread is low-growing, with flower stalks reaching only about 8” tall.

Goldthread is native to Idaho and the bordering states of Washington and Montana. It has a history of use for both medicine and dye among indigenous tribes.

The best germination will be achieved with the freshest seed (the seed we sell is always from the most recent harvest season). Sow on top of moist soil and cover to maintain moisture level. Germination can take from 1-6 months.
