Blepharipappus scaber
(also known as Rough eyelashweed)
zones 5-7
30 seeds
Eyelash weed is both a native plant and widespread at lower elevations of the Rocky Mountain region, and is also rather attractive, so we include it in our seed offerings. It is the only known species of the genus Blepharipappus. Plants are small annuals that vary in height from 3-5” depending on growing conditions. Petals are white and three-lobed, giving a feathery appearance.
Eyelash Weed grows most frequently in loose, sandy soil at lower elevations, especially among the sagebrush steppes. It likes a wet spring for flowering and a dry summer for setting seed. If conditions are favorable it will self-seed for repeat blooms the following year.
Sow on prepared soil in fall and allow to overwinter in place. Keep weeded and watered throughout the germination period. Seeds will sprout in spring when conditions are favorable.
