Prickly Sandwort is a mat-forming, flowering plant in the carnation family. As the name suggests, the leaves are stiff and sharply pointed (ouch!). Each flower stem bears 3-5 small white flowers from June-August. Mats are low-growing, and spreading.
All sandworts prefer growing in sandy, gravelly soil and are at home on sagebrush hills and rocky alpine slopes.
To grow, simply scatter seed on prepared soil in fall and allow to overwinter. Keep moist throughout winter and spring and through the growing season.
